Are you an animal lover? Do you enjoy reading stories that will strengthen your faith and deepen your relationship with God? Then today you are in for a treat. I’d like to introduce you to God Of All Creation by James Robison. As its subtitle notes, it is filled with Life Lessons From Pets And Wildlife and, in a nutshell, it is one of the most delightful books I’ve read this year!

God of All Creation contains a series of 28 vignettes that reveal important truths the author has learned about himself, life, and God as a result of his relationship with Princess – an 11 year old miniature dachshund that James fell in love with when she was only 6 weeks old.

The author paints poignant portraits of Princess throughout the book and uses these stories as well as other pet stories as the jumping off points for the insights he shares.

For instance, in the chapter entitled Created With A Purpose, James reflects on how dachshunds were bred for a specific purpose (badger hunting) and how straying from that purpose (i.e., chasing armadillos and white-tailed deer) puts them in harms way. Dog owners have to fine tune their dogs natural instincts… bird dogs, for example, need to learn how to tune out their desire to chase after all birds and to react only to specific birds. He notes:

If a dog can be trained to act according to its purpose and not get sidetracked, How much more should we learn to live the kind of life God designed for us?

As much as we want to pursue the things that will distract us from our purpose, Certainly we can learn to look past them and see a better way to live.

James paints a vivid picture of Matthew 6:26 throughout the book as he unveils the many ways God reveals Himself to us through our pets, nature and wildlife:

Look at the birds of the air; They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, And yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

As a pet guardian and animal lover, I truly related to this book. I often reflect in amazement on how much I love the pets that God has blessed me with… and how my love is only a drop in the bucket compared to how much God loves me. I found that the stories and lessons that James shared rang true and were insightful without being overly preachy, sentimental, or cloying. The beautiful illustrations that are scattered throughout the book illuminate the stories and add to one’s reading pleasure.

I rate God Of All Creation 5 out of 5 stars.
