Have you read Henri J.M. Nouwen's new book You are the Beloved Daily Meditations for Spiritual Living ? I just started it! And I am super excited because I have heard such wonderful things about Henri J.M Nouwen but hadn't had the opportuntiy to read any of his work. Therefore, I was estatic to get the opportuntiy to finally read on of his books.

Who is Henri J. M. Nouwen?

Henri Jozef Machiel Nouwen, was a Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer and theologian. Who was born January 24, 1932 in Nijkerk, Netherlands. He died  September 21, 1996 in Hilversum, Netherland. He wrote over thirty spiritual books. His books have been translated into many different languages so that all could enjoy them.

Overview of the Book

You Are Beloved is a daily devotional intended to empower readers to claim this truth in their own lives. It contains 397 pages and is divided into 12 months. Each day has a topic and a short meditation, which were selected from never before published writings, talks and letters of Heni Nouwen . There was a time in Henri's life when he was overcome with despair and loneliness. He spent days on end isolated from everyone. It was during this time that  he had an epiphany and You are the Beloved  was the result. Below the meditation is empty space so that you can record your thoughts, feelings or whatever you want. The interactive part of the book really has me looking forward to reading this book.

Book Review

In order to be able to experience the whole 365 day spiritual journey that You Are Beloved is going to take me on I will be reviewing this book on a month to month basis. I want to take time for daily meditation just the way Henri intended. Then I want to be able to come back here and share my experience with you. I hope that some of you will join in on the spiritual journey with me.

1. December

My thoughts before reading: December is a very busy month for everyone. However, I think it is especially busy for moms because they tend to get involved in making everyone else happy that they forget themselves. For this reason I was happy to put aside 5 mintues daily to be alone with the Lord and focus on the meditation of the day.

My thoughts after reading: I feel LOVED, SPECIAL and PROTECTED! Each day had an uplifting message for you to ponder. I loved the space and the bottom where I could collect my thoughts. I really enjoyed December and look forward to reading January. These are the important messages from December.

My thoughts before reading: January  is a time for a fresh start. This is the time for new goals and resolutions. We open up a new chapter in our books and get the chance to write new adventures it is up to us what we are going to write. We just need to keep in mind that God is with us and he has a plan for us.

My thoughts after reading: will be published on January 29th.
