A Force So Swift: Mao, Truman, and the Birth of Modern China, 1949 by Kevin Peraino is a fascinating look at a most pivotal year in the birth of modern China. The events that took place that year were so important that future wars were affected by the decisions made.  Truman's decision to support Mao over Chiang Kai-shek had implications that are still being felt today.
This was a well researched book filled with much information.  The author even interviewed some of the survivors of the events who are still alive.  Over 60 pages of notes were included.  This time in history is so important to our understanding today of the relations between the United States and China.  A Force So Swift is an excellent book to read in order to gain more understanding of the events that occurred during that time.
I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for review.
