For those of you who are not familiar with Mark Sisson, he is a leading voice in the Paleo and Primal movement. He blogs over at Mark’s Daily Apple and is the owner of Primal Kitchen in addition to being the author of several books. One thing I have always liked about everything Mark publishes is it is well researched and he never presents extreme views. Diet and nutrition books usually present one extreme view or another and usually the diets are not sustainable long term. The Keto Reset Diet is not just another diet book it is a guide to resetting your metabolism and developing a balanced lifestyle.
The book starts off defining exactly what ketosis is and the basic nutritional guidelines. What is truly unique about this book is Mark does not advocate jumping from the standard American Diet into a low carb ketonic diet, instead he has created a 21 day metabolism reset program to serve as a transition into the final ketogenic diet. Once you pass the exam after the 21 day reset you can proceed to the 6 week ketogenic diet phase. The book provides delicious recipes and meal plans to make transitioning to both the reset and ketogenic diet a breeze.
The ketogenic diet is a very controversial diet in the Paleo and Primal community; you can easily find many different people who are for and against it. I personally believe that the ketogenic diet can be very helpful for a variety of conditions, but it is not for everyone and this is something that Mark discusses. While I personally will not go on the keto journey right now (come on it’s the Holidays!) I did find all of the information very useful. It has reminded me to really pay attention to how food affects my mood, energy levels and sleep quality.
I received this book for review from Blogging for Books.
