It’s been a crazy few months for us between health issues, holidays, and getting our house up for sale, but I finally made time to finish Be the Hands and Feet by Nick Vujicic. I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review. I had actually never heard of Vujicic before receiving this book, but he is definitely an inspiration and someone I will follow in the future.
I’m not sure what Vujicic’s previous books are about, but I found this one to be a little bit random. He talks about his disability, foster care, his passion for teenagers, foreign missions, and his family’s health struggles among other things. But despite the lack of coherence, I enjoyed most of what Vujicic had to say. His engaging personality comes through in his writing, and, though not all Scripturally based, the book left me spiritually encouraged and motivated to make use of the talents God has given me.
The main idea I took away from Vujicic’s writing is that God made each of us unique. We all have our own personalities, our own talents, our own sphere of influence. And God wants us to use what He’s given us. We don’t have to be world famous to make a difference. We can use the talents we have in the sphere of influence God has given us to impact others for Christ right where we are.
Vujicic definitely practices what he preaches. He was born with no arms and legs, but instead of focusing on what he lacks, he has turned his disability into a platform to reach others for Christ. He is a living example of how to have hope and joy in a life that seems hopeless and depressing.
This book doesn’t go as deep as my usual reads, but if you are looking for a light, entertaining read, Vujicic does a great job at motivating and inspiring through personal stories and life experiences. I’m thankful to have been introduced to him and his story and look forward to seeing how God continues to move people--and even countries--through his life and example.
Be the Hands and Feet will be available February 13, 2018 and is currently available for pre-order here.
