I’ve had Deep Dark Fears (the first book in this collection) on my wish list for a while, so I was really excited to get the chance to check out The Creeps. You can read these in any order you want as they are a collection of comics based on real people’s fears. Each comic detailing the fear is usually only about a page, or four panels, and they are all done in color – which I always appreciate! I feel like color tends to give more detail to comics that black and white can’t always portray on its own.
While some of these fears might seem a tad over the top and unrealistic, I could always understand and even relate to a lot of them. Who says fears have to be rational? It’s like the idea of someone living under your bed and they will grab your foot if you lower it. We know, as adults, that monsters don’t exist, but so many of us still harbor this secret fear or worry.
It’s weird to say that I had favorite fears, as some of them are quite sad, but there were ones that really stuck out to me. Here’s an example of a freaky fear/occurrence:
The light was broken in the guest room. On the wall was a painting of a face. I barely slept. The next morning, I saw…the painting was actually a window.
My kitchen has a black and white checkered floor. When I go in there late at night, I only step on the white tiles, because it looks like I’d fall through the others.
What do you think? Ready to check out The Creeps?
