This is part how-to book, but mostly memoir. I wanted to read it because I love the memoir genre and, for some reason, I also like reading about people who have made it through tough times. I never had any interest in becoming a doctor, but I do get hooked on the prime-time drama series that revolve around them. Again-- voyeurism of people who have much tougher lives than I do. Very readable and enjoyable, I skipped all the practical advice and went straight to the first actual chapter.
