Feldhan recalls a conversation she had with a friend. In this conversation her friend makes a powerful statement: obedience precedes emotion. Kindness is something that has to be chosen and will often have the emotional aspect arrive later. By choosing to be kind before feeling like being kind, kindness begins to become more natural. Thus, this book is intended to develop the habit of choosing kindness and to do so with a thirty day challenge.
As I read through this book I found the advice to be practical, easy to follow, and supported by data proving that the methods work. I also appreciated that Feldhahn has sections for husband and wives on how to be kind to their spouse in a way that they spouse feels appreciated; not how they would feel appreciated.
I also valued the additional resources provided to enhance the effectiveness of the challenge as some of sections may stretch the patience of a participant. One of these resources is an online assessment to which I took and found it insightful. I recommend that the reader of this book do the same as the benefits are worth the time in my opinion.
