The soon-to-be released book "Out of a Far Country" by Christopher Yuan & Angela Yuan shares the story of "A Gay's Son Journey to God. A Broken Mother's Search for Hope" (the subtitle to the book). This son/mother duo candidly & honestly share their individual paths of brokenness, heartache, trials, redemption, and hope. I would have read the book in one sitting if I could, because I just didn't want to put it down! But I had to split it into two sittings.
The best way to capture the heart of this book is from the following excerpt: "The story that is told in Out of a Far Country is a true account of God's seeking and saving two people who were lost (see Luke 19:10): a mother who was so distraught she had decided to kill herself, and a son whose pursuit of pleasure, money, and success led to arrest, prison, and a life-threatening illness. Both mother nd son hit bottom, and at different times they both turned to God. The changes in their lives are nothing short of miraculous." (pg. 205)
This book is not exclusively about homosexuality. It's about two individuals who were both choosing to walk life their own way, without God. Christopher & Angela share how at the their lowest points, they experienced the amazing, redeeming, powerful love of God. Their lives that were once lost, were now filled with hope & a future (Jeremiah 29:11). This book would be an excellent read for all believers, and is full of encouragement for those who know someone they love that is currently walking away from God.
Out of a Far Country is being released on May 3rd, 2011. Right now you can pre-order it on Amazon for $8.70 (list price $14.99).
"Out of a Far Country" is hands-down the best book I've requested and reviewed as part of Waterbrook Multnomah's "Blogging for Books" program.
