Taking risks isn’t something most of us are comfortable doing, but in order for things to change, it’s necessary. Author Jason Jaggard in his book Spark talks about how we can change our lives and the lives of others by taking just one small risk. The founder and CEO of Spark Good, a company that is passionate about unleashing creative potential in individuals and organizations, Jaggard explains that in order to make changes in our lives, we need to unlearn some of the things we’ve been taught and see things in a different way. Jaggard, who leads Spark groups all over the country, says we can’t just read a book or go to a workshop or conference. We need to apply what we’ve learned if those changes are going to take place. “You can spend years talking about risk, but you’re life won’t change until you start taking risks. It’s not enough to know the information. It’s not enough to have the conversation. You have to move to application.†Jaggard goes on to say we need to get out of the ruts of our everyday lives and step into the unknown. It’s the only way we will be able to change, grow and discover the life we were meant to live. With examples, humor and Scripture, Jaggard explains what risk is, why we’re afraid to take risks and what we can do to step out of our comfort zones and live life to the fullest. “…risk requires you to use what you already have to get what you don’t currently have. It requires you to be who you already are so you can become the person you never thought you could be.†Once we start taking small risks, it gives us the confidence to take bigger risks and take hold of opportunities that not only change our lives, but can transform the lives of others. Jaggard further explains that “when we risk: we experience God in a way we wouldn’t otherwise. When we risk, we jump into the night and into the arms of God, come what may. It doesn’t always go the way we’d hoped, but it always goes in a way God can use to create hope.†This book has inspired me to take small risks in my own life and I’ve already seen changes in my little corner of the world. Reading this book reminded me of the first line of the song, “Pass It Onâ€: “It only takes a spark to get a fire going…†Is the Lord nudging you to take a life-changing risk, but you’re afraid? This book will help you take that first step.
