Burning plows? Digging ditches? Sounds like a lot of work to me but not when you realize the benefits of the GREATER life. I was captured from the first page of Steven Furtick's new book, Greater! I absorbed every word as I realized that I did not want to be a Christian that was wasting her faith. I am tired of thinking that this is all there is when I know deep down it is not.
The author uses the events in Elisha's life to show us the importance of being willing to step out of our comfort zone and life of mediocrity and moving purposely towards something greater. And just to ensure that we can't go back to the life we settled for, we need to "burn the plows" and get rid of anything that would give us an excuse to go back. "One thing that set Elisha apart was his ability to trust God for bigger things than anyone around him dared to believe. He looked at every obstacle as an opportunity to prove that God is greater than the confines of any situation." This book will make you realize how often we give up and stop pushing forward. It mostly happens when we refuse to burn the plows and trust that God has something greater awaiting us.
The book end with a great study guide with very thought provoking questions for every chapter. Steven Furtick reminds us to Dream Big but Start Small. We can become overwhelmed with the voices in our heads that come from our own flesh, the world or the devil that are telling us we are not good enough. The author calls this his "lesser loser life" which is "opposite of everything greater that God" has called us to be.
As Christians, we need to remember that nothing is impossible with God. This book will guide you into the Greater life and get you excited to step out of the box and look forward to making Greater part of your lifestyle.
I received this book from Waterbrook Multnomah Blogging for Books program and was not required to write a positive review.
