I enjoyed reading along as the characters became friends and set out on their various quests. The character arcs were well-crafted, and one of my favorite things about Dragonspell. Kale, the main character of the novel, changed a lot throughout the course of the story, in a good way. Kale's character arc had great pacing and seemed very natural—not in a rush and not too unbelievable.
After the first three chapters or so, the pacing was great. Many of the chapters ended on a suspenseful note so that I wanted to keep reading just to see what was going to happen next. While the book is mostly serious, there are a lot of humorous moments that made me giggle. I’d recommend Dragonspell to those who like to read fantasy and adventure. This book is a fairly light read, and I think it could make a fun read-aloud book, also.
